Supracor Honeycomb—"Technology You Can Get Comfortable With®"—Re-emerges with Exciting New Options for Footwear Designers
SAN JOSE, CA, April 30, 2001—For Silicon Valley-based Supracor, evolving its versatile honeycomb technology is an ongoing process. Founded in 1982, this R&D driven company has applied its “Technology You Can Get Comfortable With®” to products in medical, personal care, sports and footwear markets, in each case setting a new, higher level of performance and comfort.
Supracor’s Stimulite® Honeycomb Cushions for wheelchair users are state of the art for their unique features such as total ventilation to control heat and moisture and machine washability. These same features have
revolutionized everyday products such as pillows, lumbar supports and mattress overlays resulting in unparalleled comfort in a refreshingly modern design.
Now, recently developed new forms of Supracor honeycomb are being introduced to footwear designers featuring not only exceptional shock absorption, but ventilation, odor resistance and self-massaging properties. Supracor’s application in footwear is not new. A supplier to Reebok® International for more than 10 years, Supracor honeycomb was featured as a shock-absorbing component (Hexalite®) in the midsole of Reebok’s high-end athletic shoes. Noted for its resilience and durability, the honeycomb components typically outlasted the shoes.
A flexible form of aerospace honeycomb, Supracor is an optimum strength-to-weight material, insuring uniform weight distribution and exceptional stability in an ultra-lightweight matrix. In addition, honeycomb’s anisotropic characteristic—differing degrees of resistance from the sides—allows footwear designers to incorporate the material in the shoe for greater comfort.
“Having such important benefits as shock absorption, stability, ventilation and odor resistance in a single component is a tremendous advantage for designers,” said Antonio Colella, footwear development manager for Supracor. “We can assist our clients with development and design, customizing the honeycomb to meet their needs.”
According to Susan Wilson, director of Research and Development, “everyday we discover new applications for
footwear. The technology is so versatile, its application is limited only by the designer’s imagination.”
Supracor Stimulite honeycomb is currently featured in LANDI Footwear.
