Thanks in part to my Supracor pad, which helps keep my horses' backs cool and comfy, it has been an incredible competitive year for me so far. Doso, the 17 year old Arab gelding, has been at the top of his form. He has done three multiday rides, for a total of 11 days and 560 miles. He has five wins, three 2nds, one 3rd, one 4th and one 7th (I held him back on purpose one day, but I sure had to fight him to do it!). He has nine best conditions, including eight in a row, and he won fastest overall time and overall best condition at all three multiday rides. This puts him in the running for the West region featherweight division, once again. (All this on top of his fantastic season last year, when he was West region featherweight champion, as well as National best condition champion). Unfortunately Doso's owner wanted him back, so he is now at home in Utah, relaxing. Even with only getting to ride him for half the season, I should remain in the National points standings with him again this year. Tallymark, the nine year old 1/2 Arab gelding, also came out spectacularly this year. We started with two 50 mile rides. We won and got best condition on the first, and then were 11th at the second, because we were escorting a friend of mine through her very first 50 mile ride. Tallymark went on to win and get best condition at the 20 Mule Team 100 miles in Ridgecrest, CA, and followed up with a 2nd place and best condition at the Washoe 100 miler in May. Since then, I have been keeping a low profile with Tallymark, working on peaking him for the Pan American Championships in September. I will find out on August 12th if we are selected to the squad to compete at Pan Ams. Right now, Tallymark is second (behind Doso) in the West region featherweight division, and first in the National 100 mile division. Tallymark and I have been named to the National Endurance Team, so we are one of ten horses from the country to have this honor.
