Supracor debuts next generation of commercial aerospace seat cushions featuring newly formulated thermoplastic urethane (TPU)

SAN JOSE, CA, October 1, 2013—Supracor will be debuting its new line of Stimulite® honeycomb cushions for all classes of commercial aircraft seating at the 2013 Aircraft Interiors Expo Americas. The new cushions feature a next generation Elastollan® thermoplastic urethane (TPU) developed specifically for the aerospace industry in close cooperation with Supracor’s partner, BASF. This aerospace grade of TPU has been engineered to meet the industry’s strict fire, smoke and toxicity (FST) standards while providing maximum flexibility and comfort. When utilized in honeycomb form, the new TPU material also meets the dynamic requirements in thicknesses as low as one inch.
Stimulite honeycomb can be designed to exceed any level of comfort while saving the customers weight and space as well as increasing the cushions’ useful life when compared to traditional solutions. Additionally, the ventilation, antimicrobial nature and recyclability of this advanced technology combine to give the end user a high-value product. Supracor is currently working with several companies to integrate the technology into both private and commercial jet aircraft from pilots’ seats to V.I.P., First, Business and Economy class seats.
Produced exclusively in Silicon Valley, Supracor’s innovative Stimulite honeycomb is engineered from advanced, eco-friendly materials that are made in America. A soft, flexible form of aerospace honeycomb that has “memory,” Stimulite self-adjusts to each passenger, providing optimal weight distribution as well as ventilation. Its perforated cellular matrix is more than 90 percent open space with less than 10 percent material in contact with the body. The resultant “footprint” of the cells’ edges combined with their flexing action promotes circulation, subtly massaging the body to help alleviate discomfort and heat buildup on long flights.
Stimulite is the U.S. Military’s specified cushion for the F-18 Hornet fighter jets and multiple types of rotorcraft, including the H60 Black Hawk helicopter and V22 Osprey. Commercially, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and 747-8 long range aircraft feature lightweight Stimulite mattresses in the crew rest.
